ON BEING YOUR LAWYER AND ADVOCATE
It is not just preparing papers, going to court, or even slugging it out in cross-examination. It is agreeing to be the eyes and ears of grieving and wounded people. It's accepting all the resposibility that comes with your trust in me as a professional and your faith in me as a person.
Being a lawyer means not only sharing the pain of other people's suffering but also accepting the burden of their trust. In the final moment, being a lawyer is not necessarily about winning or losing. It is about keeping faith.
My purpose as a lawyer is to change things for the better. And to do that, sometimes, it may be necessary to stand alone outside and pound on the door with both fists because the bank of justice should not be bankrupt.
In the end, Martin Luther King, Jr. was right when he stated that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Because we stand for something, we cannot fall for anything...
